An important update to your patients' Promixin (colistimethate sodium) medication and I-neb service
As you may already know, Zambon UK offers a package service whereby the annual treatment cost of Promixin for your patients includes the supply and ongoing maintenance of the I-neb nebuliser, the associated consumables and enrollment into the I-nhale Patient Support Programme.
We regret to inform you that despite every effort taken and due to circumstances outside of our control, Zambon UK have been unable to secure the ongoing supply of I-nebs from our external manufacturer. Unfortunately this means that from 31st October 2024, Zambon UK will not be able to supply any I-nebs for new patients initiated on Promixin.
We are pleased to update you that Zambon UK will be able to continue to support existing I-neb patients with replacing I-nebs that become faulty until the end of 2024 and consumables for Promixin and co-medications throughout 2024 and 2025. Access to the I-adhere online adherence software will also be unaffected.
What does this mean for my patients?
From 31st October 2024, Zambon UK will not be able to provide I-nebs for new patients who have been prescribed Promixin and no new patients will be able to register for the I-nhale Patient Support Programme. Any new patients will need to take their medication via an alternative nebuliser. Promixin can be administered via any nebuliser suitable for the administration of nebulised antibiotics. Drug delivery characteristics from in vitro studies with different nebuliser systems are detailed within the Promixin Summary of Product Characteristics.
This will not affect our supply of I-neb consumables for Promixin and co-medications, which we are pleased to be able to continue to supply for existing I-neb patients through 2024 and 2025. We will also be able to replace any faulty I-nebs for existing Promixin patients until the end of 2024. The I-nhale Patient Support Programme will continue to support you and your registered patients, including access to the I-nhale Portal and ongoing dedicated telephone and logistical support for your I-neb users.
Will I-neb stock return?
Unfortunately, this is a permanent discontinuation of I-neb supply. We are keen to continue to support patients for as long as possible, but once the current supply of I-nebs is diminished, there are no plans for our external manufacturer to resume production.
Can I-nebs be purchased directly from the manufacturer and is a replacement for I-neb going to be made available?
No, unfortunately this is a permanent discontinuation of I-neb supply and there are currently no plans by the I-neb manufacturer to replace the device.
Can Promixin be used with other nebulisers?
Yes, Promixin can be administered using a suitable nebuliser (please refer to the nebuliser manufacturer for dilution instructions). Drug delivery characteristics from in vitro studies with different nebuliser systems are detailed within the Promixin Summary of Product Characteristics.
What can we do?
Zambon UK are committed to sharing as much information as possible to keep you fully informed about the supply of I-nebs and the impact on patient treatment. Whilst we are making every effort to ensure that the impact on patients is minimised, we advise you to take this information into consideration when planning the long-term treatment of your patients.
